Here, I am going to be talking about Malnutrition, causes and its prevention and I will advice you read till end for better understanding and knowledge. Malnutrition doesn't come by pocket which means it can affect the rich and the poor.

What is Malnutrition

Malnutrition is the occurrence that comes as a result of insufficient, excessive consumption of nutrients(imbalance consumption of nutrients). The nutritional disorder differs and depends on the nutrients which are insufficient or excessive in the diet, tho the common nutritional disorder in our environment is "undernutrition"(insufficient)

What causes Malnutrition

  • Inadequate food or nutrient intake which arise as a result of poverty, meal restrictions, taboo and so on
  • Ignorance (when you don't know the content and six classes of food and also how to balance it)
  • Infection
  • Indigestion
  • Too busy to monitor yourself or your children
  • Consumption of unhealthy food

Malnutrition symptoms

  • At first symptoms may be mild to show or no sign at all
  • They vary like I said earlier, it can come in from of fatigue, dizziness, rapid hair loss, weight loss,decreased immune response and lack of growth in children.

How to prevent malnutrition

  • For babies less than six months should be exclusively breast fed
  • From six months to two years, should be given nutrient dense foods to complement breast milk
  • Young children, adolescent and adults should eat from all groups of food (Classes of food)

Classes of food and examples

  • Protein - Beans, Milk, Egg, Cheese, Yogurt, Meat etc
  • Minerals/Vitamins - Vegetables, Fruits etc
  • Carbohydrates - Garri, Rice, Yam etc
  • Fat and oil - Vegetables, Magrine, Butter etc
