Snails are found in a slightly wet and shady environment. A place that is not water-logged. Though, different specie lives in water. In fact they are found in a place where rich dark material is formed by the decay of dead leaves, woods, animal faeces and so on. The soil in this kind of place is usually very fertile for planting. This is why snails are found more in certain parts of the country, especially in the rain forest than in the arid zone. Therefore to have a successful breeding snails must to put in conditions which permits their existence
Constructing Snail House
Snail farming is very easy to start. it is financially, not capital intensive. Snailery should be constructed in such a way that it must prevent snails from escaping and bar the predators from entering.
Depending on the quantity of snails, a space measuring 5ft sq or 5ft X 5ft can be used for about 40 snails for a start. The height should be about 5ft with 2ft of it dug into the soil. The space could be fenced round with wooden plank and the gap between each plank should be so tight that ants cannot get into the snail's habitat.
The floor should be filled with hard core up to 6" Level from the soil. Thereafter, a humus soil should be poured in, for another 6". The reason for this is because snails thrive on soil like this and during dry season, they bury themselves beneath the soil for from heat. Also, they lay their eggs inside the soil. So provide this for them.

Environmental Conditions
To achieve a good condition for snail habitation, you should fumigate the environment and plant trees or shrubs for shades.
Feeding
Snail feed on a variety of things that are not harmful and free from salt. For example; paw paw, vegetables, yam, potato leaves, cocoyam leaves also snails feed and stop when they want just like fowls, so give them enough luxurious breed.
Security/safety of snails:
Pets such scissors-ant are inimical to snails. Examples are soldier ants and termites. Others are: centipedes, cockroaches, millipedes, snake, lizards. Brown ants are also dangerous to snails therefore we ought to cover the snail house properly with mosquito net.
You also damp the snail house by watering it yourself, watering leaves as food for the seeds are equally good. Excess water from rainfall should be removed. Above all this will permit a good harvest after about 8months depending on the specie of snail, some can last up to 5years.
